I drove my gasser"PURPLE HAZE" to the first CAR CRAFT STREET MACHINE NATIONALS in 1977. Sold the car in 1978...anyone seen it ? The photo on my page shows me and a couple of other pals dumb enough to drive their hot rods from Delaware to INDY with me. I had to un-bolt the then "state of the art" ladder bars from the chassis due to a F/G STREET MACHINE confrontation with the WHEELING WEST VIRGINIA highway !! The front ladder bar mount actually departed from the chassis. Now I know why mydad was shaking his head as I pulled from the driveway to leave for INDY !! Turns out he had the same kind of "FUN" driving his '40 Ford coupe to race on the local dirt tracks. I hope MY son gets the message,but he comes from a family of MOTORHEADS. So his house too will always need repair .......but ya gotta have a car fund first !!
