1320X - Grassroots Drag Racing

So I'm driving home from the race track in Sacramento to my moms house in Sunnyvale, about a 2hr drive. Gave me time to think. Although it was July 4th there was nobody at the track. I guess people had other things to do. whatever. For the last times I've been to the track I felt like an outsider. I don't really have any fun anymore. I started thinking maybe its time I just sell my nova and just get out of racing and cars all together. My nova has been sitting since 1999, it has always been garaged but its been sitting outside under a cover for over a year now. I don't have the time or the money like I used to to devote to the car. I had a goal to get it to run an 8.90 but I think thats out of reach now. I definetly cannot afford to run any heads up events and be competitive. I did think okay maybe I'll just finish what I had going and just make it a 10.0 car naturally aspirated. Still requires money. I could go back to bracket racing. eh.... maybe I thought well I'll just make it a driver. Well it STILL is gonna take money because I got switch out all the drag stuff. Now should I go as far as cutting the cage out? getting rid of the spool and gears and reverse manual valve body trans? drop the compression? take out the roller? So now the car is in limbo. People say don't sell it I'll regret it. Will I? I don't regret selling the cars I've had before....I miss them....wished I didn't have to sell them but it was necessary. I mean if I sell the car I'd walk away from it all.....find a new hobby. I just don't know anymore. So the car sits at my friend's shop in Arizona. He says he'll put it together for me and he'll go race it with his motor and parts, so long as I give him permission to do it. He wants to build a tubular front end for the car with struts, rack and pinion and put a big block in it. I don't care either way I told him not to start on it in case I sell it. I was thinking I would love to trade it for a nova convertible....total cruiser. But how can I put a price tag on something so near and dear to me? I've had my car since 1983 and built it from a POS 6 cylinder car. I certainly don't think somebody is gonna trade me a running convertible for my car. Maybe if its in the same condition? guess well see....stay tuned.

Hobbies change sometimes, boats, hunting, golf, racing. I've done them all and I have been obsessive about all. Took about 30 years off from racing and now I eat and sleep it. I do wish that I had held on to some old cars that I had and I really did not need to sell.
Smitty is right (as much as I hate to admit that) take a break, and don't make a decision too quickly.

Sounds like you are in emotional turmoil right now. I can relate as I'm sure most can. I am with you 100% If you are not having fun, there is no point in doing it. My suggestion to you.....my advice........ would be to just take a break....give it some thought and then make a decision. In my experience, when I am emotional about something, that is the worse possible time to take action!!! Hang in there. Time will tell what the right choice is for YOU!
