Tuff 73

Nostalgia's Race Meeting- Sat 16th May 2009

Well what can I say...... I had a fantastic time. Tuff and I were back together racing after our last run in January 2009 ( Yes I had to let hubby race a few times- that's what happens when you share a racing car!).

I was determined to go rounds and go rounds I did!

There was a turnout of 150 cars competing in 7 brackets from front engine dragsters to later model cars as well.

I entered the GAS class, this was supposed to be run as a Chicago shootout bracket originally, but turned into a dial your own bracket.

We were given three test and tune passes to start with, then we got into qualifying after lunch.

The first two passes went like this: -10.48@128.53mph and second pass was a 10.40 @128.72 mph. The day started out cloudy with a cold head wind.

1st Qualifier- 10.46 @ 128.21 mph
2nd Qualifier - 10.44 @ 129.05 mph

Getting lots of wheel spin off the transbrake still though.

1st eliminator - I dialled in a 10.38 ( i was being optimistic with the cooler air!) my opponent was a TE cortina with a 150 shot of Nos, he dialled in a 10.80. Run the pass, he broke out with a 10.77 and also broke the top off his spark plug too and backed off before the traps.

2nd Eliminator- I dialled in a 10.40 and I raced a big block camaro- this car was an angry animal and he dialled in a 9.56. He reacted .4493, I reacted .4425 and crossed the traps first, no way I was backing off at all!!
I ran a 10.408 and he ran a 9.84- he had trouble getting out the hole!

3rd Eliminator- I dialled in 10.40 and my opponont dialled in a 10.82, he reacted in the .47 to my .60 light, but he broke out by running 10.81 and I ran a 10.43- massive wheelspin that pass.

By this stage it was 9:45pm and a car had gone down the track and oiled down the last half of the quarter- what to do? We had a drivers briefing, we voted to give the crew half hour and then came back to meet and discuss how long it would take to clean it. This time of night it was getting colder and it was getting later too.

At the second meeting, someone had a great idea, the track was too bad to clean up in a short time, so we raced by reaction times- you skid, you launch, you shut off by 60 foot mark and the best reaction wins.

So I lined up against my old cortina and the new owner, he does a skid past the tree, tries to get reverse and can't, so drives forward and has to forfeit the run, I get through to the final.

I line up against a friend of mine, his car normally runs 8.4's and get this, every eliminator that he had, every opponent red lit! LOL! we stage, we launch and I did'nt believe it, I RED LIT!!!!! .35 light!!!

Anyway, Tuff and I made it to Runner Up, I am still stoked, Tuff ran great, I cut good lights until the final and I'm looking forward to another race.

Cheers,

Leanne.
