1320X - Grassroots Drag Racing

Well, it's been 40 years since I've been on a drag strip ... but today that all changes. I'm going to take my Cobra today and see what she will do (maybe that's see what I can do with her).
I'm going with the attitude of "just have fun." Take it slow and see how it goes.
It's also an 1/8 mile strip and I've never driven on an 1/8 mile strip .. I guess logic would tell me that it's half the distance.
Now that I've given all my excuses .... off I go.
I'll let you all know how I did.

Steve

I had a ball ...but, did you know that once you have your helmet on, you have a difficult time getting your glasses on. Once your helmets on, you can't look down far enough so you have to put your 5 point safety belts on by feel. When ask by two young men, as you start out to the staging lanes, if you intend to race, don't look cocky and overconfidently say; Oh yes! When your car overheats in the lanes waiting for your turn, did you know that a safety belt can prevent you from reaching the ignition key that is under the dash, to shut it off. but, you must have a sense of humor when you roll past the starting line and they tell you to back up. Tell your wife not to tell you that the track staff had to mop up after you ran, because of the water left by your over heating radiator, and tell her not to laugh about it. Running with the gas only half way down will not give you a very good speed, and I think I used to be better at the start then 1.02, 40 years ago. Hey! I did several very nice burn outs putting the car into the trailer, by accident.
Hey, it was fun!!!

Hey good luck to you Steve. I got out just once this year for my second time in 30 years. Hope to do better next year. Lots of fun.
