1320X - Grassroots Drag Racing

I finally got to the track today. I only brought 1 car as I wasn't sure of the weather. I did 5 passes and got home with no problems. The car ran flawlessly and I archived my goals for the day of exceeding 100MPH and under 14 seconds. The open diff is really costing me. Wheel spin in first and second gear. That's got to go. First pass was accidentally very successful and would have been the best pass if I knew where the track ended. I started to shut down just passed the timing signs not realizing there was a couple of hundred feet left. It was my second fastest pass of the day at 13.9 despite a top speed of only 93MPH. The first pass had a very good time because I wasn't trying to push it to hard and therefore less wheel spin. Then came the traction issues due to the open diff, with the next two passes well into the 14's followed by another 13.9 and finally a 13.8 @ 102 MPH.

Had a lot of fun. I think it may have potential for low 13's.

Thanks CC. I hope you did well yesterday. Sundays may be my only day in the near future as I'm applying for a job that requires me to work Saturdays and some Sundays so who knows.

Thanks for the comments guys. The tires are just a used set I purchased on E-bay. They have good rubber and are safe so I can get going while I sort out my wheel sizes and staggers. Rears are Michelin MXM4 225 55 R16. Fronts are Goodyear Eagle. All are mounted on 8" wide rims. The rear will fit and 9" wide wheel without any difficulty. The front tires are kissing both the inside and outside fenders so I at the very least need a smaller tire and will probably opt for a 16 X 7.5" wheel. So yes between an open diff and crappy narrow rear tires, I'm backing off the gas for the first couple of hundred feet. I was also running my stock exhaust this week and have yet to duct my intakes to cold air. My guess is this could be a 13.2 car with an LSD and 9" wheels with decent rubber, straight through exhaust and cold air intake. So its work in progress, unfortunately its all down to hard cash now, so I will have to drive what I got for the moment

Sounds good JR! Sorry I missed it! Just out of curiosity. What kind of tires are you running in the rear?
