1320X - Grassroots Drag Racing

okay..well i am just starting to build my first drag car. it is a 1982 camaro z28 with a factory 4spd. i was wondering if i should keep the 4spd trans in it or switch it over to automatic trans? yes i know how to drive manual trans, but i've been told auto is easier for drag racing. then i have been told due to my new engine being built , it would make more sense to keep the 4spd. so im kinda confused as to what i should do in the best interest of my drag car, as of right now this is the plan for my car: 383 stroker, scat crank, eagle h beam rods, srp pistons, roller cam, 4spd trans, 4.10 with spool, electric water pump, manual steering box and 2 stages of nos. so if anyone has any advive or imput that may be helpful...i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

I've been there an I think auto is the better way to go.There is all ways a stall to fit the application. I like turbo 400 rev valve body an it also free wheels no lag on engine on decell. good luck

All I can say is that,I have a 84 Z28, with almost the same setup. I switched to a B@M auto, and could not be happier. But it is in your hands. If you can drive that 4 speed, keep it. Go with what feels best for you. If I can give you any other help, let me know. I have auto transmissions and converters you can try. Keep me up to date.
God Bless

A stick is faster up to about a low 11, after that you better be real good at it an be prepared to work on it a lot. put a TH 400 in it and you'll never be happier, plus more consistant. N20 is also best with an auto, I've tried both ways and I still have the 400 in it, you just can't swing the stick as fast as the motor revs up and one miss and it's blown up.
Good luck, keep the faith and you'll do fine WILL
